St. Mawes Castle
This charming and romantic castle occupies a magical setting, proudly defending not just the world’s third largest natural harbour, but also protecting one of the prettiest villages in the West County, its namesake, St Mawes.
Completed in 1545, its clover-leaf shape was originally a clever design feature to deflect enemy gunfire. Today, these smooth curves complement the beautiful landscaped gardens and panoramic views of the surrounding coastline
